iPhone 5 – Should I care?

12 Sep

Because I don’t. My Twitter feed is going mad with celebs and techies drooling over the Live event for the iphone 5 release.

rickygervais Ricky Gervais Can’t wait for the new iPhone 5. I’ve had this mint condition, perfectly good, antique iPhone 4 for over a year now. Embarrassing.

Telegraph are doing a live Twitter feed and there’s still 5 hours to go before it all kicks off – I mean…come on!

I have to be honest, I dislike Apple. My view is that it’s for people who want a smart phone that tells them what to do. You cannot configure an Apple phone, the phone configures you.

And before you shout, “I bet you’ve never even owned an iPhone” – I have. In the days before I become conscious of technology and what it can do, I joined the ‘I have an iPhone brigade’. I played with it for 2 minutes before realising, Oh, I can’t actually do anything to it. I was bored after 3 months and then got the Samsung Galaxy S2 and my world changed. That phone was My Phone down to the typeface, the way I viewed widgets and my favourite apps. If I picked up an iPhone it would have taken me a while to work out whether it was my phone or my friends. Pick up my Samsung Galaxy and I knew it was my phone.

So, what do we know about the iPhone 5, other than the fact lots of people are about to waste money on something that isn’t worth it?

It is ‘thought’ to boast a taller screen… Great.

Smaller dock connector predicted… excellent so you need to buy new leads?

and I quote, ‘event follows major court victory over Samsung’.  Brilliant, so Apple are going to cash in on the fact that ignorant people are swerving away from Samsung and falling into the open arms of Apple? Or, to be precise, falling into the open wallets of Apple bosses?

Hey, once the release is here and I’ve read up on it, I might write a completely different blog piece. I’m not too proud to admit when I was wrong. But truthfully? I hope Apple fall flat on their fat greedy faces.

Nailart Masterchef

12 Sep

I’m very lucky to live with two great girls, especially as Amy and I have a lot of the same tastes and interests.

Last night at Chateaux Cobden, as we settled down to watch the Great British Bake Off – which incidentally made us both want to eat pies – our D.I.Y nailart kits came out and we set to work. I went for ‘evening’ nailart and Amy went for ‘daytime’. Next time we’ll be swapping and I’ll take a crack at a daytime style.

I have to give Ames a round of applause for hers, love it and very carefully done.

Please note, some of these photos are silly and were taken when we were dabbling in amateur photography.

Quite a manic Monday…

10 Sep

Inspired by Victoria Beckham’s use of orange at her SS 13 fashion show, I wore a burnt orange dress from Miss Selfridges, long cardigan H&M and classic pumps front New Look. Make up and hair pretty simple as didn’t want to go overload on a Monday with bold colour and bold makeup 🙂

If you haven’t heard…

Victoria Beckham’s SS 13 fashion show in New York yesterday has been received with rave reviews.

And I can see why.
Clean cute lines, feminine skirts but quite ‘power dressing’ tops, bold colours – I have to say, I love it. VB’s going for bright oranges and black and white and I love this bolder approach to Spring/Summer style, making a change from pastel colours.
Here’s a pick of my favourites from yesterdays catwalk show

Love the strip of colour on white.

Start the week with a bit of lust

10 Sep

On a Monday, as well as needing 20 shots of coffee, I like to think of what I really want to buy. A lust item, so that I hit the working week running because without doing well at my job, I’m not going to be able to afford my ‘Lust item’ so see it as motivation!
This week – a satchel from the Cambridge Satchel Company. I’ve never been a ‘handbag woman’ . Most of mine are purchased from H&M or Primarni (Primark) because they’re cheap, cheerful, and doesn’t matter if my bottle of water leaks, or it becomes chocker block full of old bus tickets, receipts or random packets of chewing gum.

However, as I reach the half way point of my 25th yeah, I feel the time has come for a ‘grown up’ handbag, and so as I trawled through Instagram I found someone blogging about their new Cambridge Satchel and it was love at first sight.

They have such a wide array of choice it’s brilliant – so many different colours what with the classic, fluro and pastel collections! Although it does lead to the issue… What colour to go for?!

But I think electric blue gets my vote

The Mann family

9 Sep

Well, actually, we’re more of a mob.

A quick few facts:-

There’s 5 children
Katy is the oldest, 42
I’m the youngest, 25

We do not hug, we do not kiss. We’re pretty much an emotionally retarded family. Most of the time we try to catch each other out with carefully worded insults. People don’t like when we ‘debate’. Most of them are too clever for their own good (myself not included). Our favourite film is Withnail and I, if you don’t like it, I probably won’t like you.

Our mum sadly passed away boxing day 1999.

My sister’s got married. Both said they didn’t want children. But Audrey Grace Johnston was conceived in Paris in 2006 and was born 27th December 2006.

She is my only niece. She was born profoundly deaf. She is the most animated, imaginative and sweet little girl you’ll ever meet and this weekend I got to see her.

We went to Kew Gardens, to see Grease at the open air cinema. During a ‘sex’ scene in a car, Audrey asked, “are they trying to squeeze out the window?”.
